Workshop WHO-MediPIET: Guidance for Managing Ethical Issues in Infectious Disease Outbreaks
MediPIET and the World Health Organisation are jointly organising a workshop on “Guidance for Managing Ethical Issues in Infectious Disease Outbreaks” on November 26th in Brussels, Belgium.
The Global Health Ethics team is implementing a pilot project to operationalise its Guidance for Managing Ethical Issues in Infectious Disease Outbreaks: http://who.int/ethics/publications/infectious-disease-outbreaks/en/.
For this first pilot stage, two topics have been selected: namely, Public Health Surveillance and Research. The pilot project will be a web-based platform, which will include various operational tools, such as quizes, infographics, case studies and checklists. The purpose of the operational tools is to support various stakeholders to easily integrate the normative ethical guidance into existing preparedness and response plan.
The overall goal of this project is to support the incorporation of ethics into all aspects of the public health response to infectious disease outbreaks. Specific objectives of this project are to develop a pilot framework to demonstrate how ethical guidance can be mainstreamed, operationalised and made meaningful to those responding to a public health emergency.
