The headquarters of Directorate-General for Development and Cooperation in rue de la Loi in Brussels hosted the meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and the Project Coordination Committee (PCC) of MediPIET.

The meeting brought together representatives of DG DEVCO, DG SANTE (DG Health and Food Safety), the Joint Research Centre, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and representatives of the EU Advisory countries (France, Greece and Spain), as well as representatives of the Training Centre Forum and the Consortium FIIAPP-ISCIII.

The main issues covered during the meetings held on 21st June 2017 in Brussels were:

  1. Project closure
  2. Extension of the Project
  3. Sustainability

The closure of the present implementation phase of MediPIET will be reached at the end of the year 2017. The Health Institute Carlos III from Spain officially informed to the DG DEVCO that it will assume the extension of the project in 2018.

MediPIET Consortium presented the achievements in sustainability and highlighted the high degree of commitment of partner countries and their willingness to continue in the network. In this sense the concept note for a new phase of MediPIET drafted by partner countries was discussed in depth. Efforts will be made by all the stakeholders to ensure the long term sustainability of the MediPIET network in a creative way.

The SAB, chaired by ECDC, is the body overseeing the scientific coordination of the project and providing strategic guidance. Three representatives of the TCF are elected members of the SAB on an annual basis and participate in its meetings.

The PCC, chaired by DG DEVCO, is the body overseeing the implementation of the project, guaranteeing the achievement of its objectives and approving the annual workplans.
